About Kahea Sammons

There is always a backstory as to how a person may feel or view the world and you’ll never know, unless you sit down and listen.  Starting out in the Mental Health field 7 years ago as a youth care worker in residential therapy gave Kahea insight to understand the various puzzle pieces to a person’s life.  Kahea has previously worked as an adoption preservation counselor within the community as well as a school counselor at a Therapeutic Day School.

When emotions become unclear and you are not able to put your finger on what is taking place, there is someone to assist you in making sense of it all.  Kahea believes that people will eventually be confronted with something in life that creates discord, confusion or another emotion that may be new or difficult to understand.  Kahea also focuses on clients as individuals; and for what creates stress and anxiety for one person, may not be an issue for the next. Kahea believes that learning to accept your individuality and YOU as a person is key to building on your successes.  This is the message Kahea strives to assist her clients in learning more about themselves.

Kahea’s theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and an eclectic style because not one orientation will work best for all clients.  Kahea specializes in: adolescents/teens, trauma/PTSD and anxiety. Other areas of knowledge include: Autism Spectrum Disorder, adoption, bipolar disorder, mood disorders, depression and personality disorders.

Kahea is passionate about working with those who have personality disorders because she wants to assist her clients in piecing together their story.  Kahea shared “sometimes clients come in and they talk about their childhood and it’s easy for me to point out life events that they may not have thought of.  When this happens, clarity begins.” Being able to teach clients how to manage symptoms on a daily basis so they can live life without emotions running their lives is Kahea’s goal as a therapist, not giving out a diagnosis.

Kahea also has a personal interest in working with creative individuals: those who are the performer, always having constant ideas or perhaps seen as “outside the box.”  Kahea’s interest stems from previously being a performer as a SAG actress, model, songwriter and singer. Kahea shares that she understands how the creative process works and performers have different expectations than most.  Kahea’s goal is to assist clients in accepting themselves even when they’re not on stage, wherever that may be in life.  She is focused on helping client’s see and achieve the best version of themselves with the skill sets to live fulfilling lives.
